DEVIN O’BRIEN

NYS LICENSED FISHING & CAMPING GUIDE

About Me

I was born and raised in the Hudson Valley, and always felt most at home exploring our wilderness. After 10 years working as a teacher, coach, brewery manager, and nonprofit leader, I quit my job to spend more time sharing my life-long passion for the wild—and its empowering, healing impact with others.

I am the Co-Founder of Memphis Inner City Rugby, a sport based youth development nonprofit in Tennessee, and previously served as the Executive Director of Harlem Lacrosse in NYC.

From treks through both the arctic and antarctic circles and many rivers and mountains in between, nature has always "led me home" and towards a more essential, connected, and meaningful life. I am based in Kingston, NY, where I fly fish, backpack, snowboard, mountain bike, and wanders the woods with my wife, Erin, and pooch, Banjo.

Fly Fishing Wade Trips

I truly enjoy sharing the wonders of the storied waters I get to call home. Whether you are looking to get out on the water for the first time or a seasoned angler coming to the area and looking for local knowledge, I aim to customize my trips to be responsive to your goals, needs and interests. We can find big water to wade for miles, or hike into tiny mountain creeks full of native brook trout. We can plan a point-to-point adventure, where we hike in and through a long stretch of river, or we can plant ourselves at a couple tried and true sections of water to enjoy being outside and in good company.

As a former teacher and youth development program executive, I especially enjoy helping families and kids get out on the water together, and aim to provide the experiences, lessons and opportunities I can to help families and kids spend more time outside, wading clear waters and chasing rising trout.

I predominantly guide The Beaverkill and The Willowemoc with trips starting in the Roscoe area. For those looking for more adventure, I also customize itineraries to combine backpacking and fly fishing, heading far into the wilderness to chase native brook trout in small mountain streams and finish the day by the campfire.
